Good music, lots of people
This is a fun place. The drinks are pretty cheap (a lot of specials) and there's a lot of people (but go after 11--before that it's deserted). The music's good, too.
Brothers Staff Sours Exp.
While Brothers has become renown for it's great food, comfortable atmosphere, and quality Happy Hour Specials - it's security staff has somewhat tarnished it glowing image of fun and relaxation.
I have been to Brothers numerous times and always had a good time. Although the Bar Staff consistently over-serves the huddled masses to the point of 'drunken-stupor', I have never felt threatened or in danger while there. This changed, however, during a recent visis on 3/29/2006 when my friends and I headed out to enjoy a much deserved evening out @ 11:30pm.
There were no problems to report for the duration of the night - until about 1:30am. One of our party, who I shall call 'Tom' was enjoying himself to the sights and sounds of another Brothers evening. Never intoxicated, 'Tom' was leaning casually on the Air-Hockey table (enjoying his second Budweiser in 2.5 hours) when a small but puffed-chest member of The Brothers Security Task-Force strolled rather angrily up to him. The conversation that ensued was within ear-shot. The 'bouncer' told 'Tom' that he must finish his beer and leave immediately. 'Tom' replied that we were leaving soon so it didn't matter. The security guard then yelled at 'Tom' that he must leave "Right NOW!" When 'Tom' asked "Why?" the security guard grabbed "Tom" and put him in an armbar - directly followed by another "Bouncer" grabbing 'Tom' by the neck and wrestling him to the floor.
My brother and I rushed over to see exactly what it was that could have set off the security staff this way when the small-bouncer lept up onto a chair and began flashing a small pocket-flashlight towards the bar. My brother and I reasoned with the bouncer still holding 'Tom' and he, during our conversation, even stated that he "didn't know what was going on, he was just helping." After leaving, the bouncer wouldn't give us the name of the little bouncer. I only got the name of the General Manager and we left. 'Tom' wasn't mad, just confused.
Very overrated!
Although Brothers can be a good place to see/meet cool, young, attractive singles, it's numerous downfalls detract from what could be a really great place to go and have a drink. First of all, the service at Brothers is poor at best. There are always lots of people there, and never enough bartenders to handle the large volume of drink orders. It isn't unusual to wait at the bar upwards of 10 minutes before getting served. Secondly, I agree with the previous poster that the security staff at Brothers is poorly trained. Brothers also has entirely too many people. I do disagree with the previous poster that Brothers has good food. I've had their wings and I was unimpressed. Again, I feel that Brothers could indeed be a great place, but if you're looking for an enjoyable night, there are plenty of better alternatives throughout the city.
Oh Brother....
Well, let's start with the good since there isn't much. There is plenty of eye candy at Bother's and the music is O.K. Now that we have the good let's talk the bad. Don't go there if you have a weak bladder, or a bladder at all for that matter. You will wait 20 minutes to use the restroom if you are a woman and as much as 10 if you are a guy. And once you finally get to the toilet, hope you have the ability to hit a target from three feet because that's how far away you have to stand from the stall if you don't want to wade through piss on the floor.
Frankly I am surprised that anyone even NEEDS to use the bathroom because it is next to impossible to get a drink. You have to push and shove your way to the bar, only to get ditched by someone else who got there after you, but about 15 minutes later you might have a drink in hand. At least 8 people said something to me regarding how much of a pain it is just to get a drink last night alone. And that happens every time I am there.
And how about the bouncers/crowd controls guys? When I was coming in last night one of the guys at the front door was calling a guest an "A" hole as he was leaving...and he wasn't kidding around. They are all very impolite and think they have a license to kill. I saw an issue last night where one of the bouncers attacked a guy for no apparent reason other than to assert his "power." The bouncer asked this guy to stop leaning on a game table and told the guy he needed to leave after he finished his beer. The guy said something back to the effect that he was getting ready to leave anyway. Without any reason the bouncer attacked the guy and had him in a choke hold and an arm bar and took him to the ground. Another bouncer came over and joined in. The guy ended up leaving quietly but I don't think he ever found out exactly why he was victimized. If I were him I would consider legal action and if I were the owner of Brother's I would fire that bouncer.
