For 30 years, Columbus' haven for metalheads has enjoyed a reputation for drawing top-notch metal acts and well-behaved crowds. But on Dec. 8, 2004, the venue made national headlines after a gunman rushed the stage during a Damageplan performance. He shot and killed four people, including the band's guitarist, "Dimebag" Abbott. Presumably, the ARV crew will continue to bang their collective heads to make great rock is available in a local, affordable setting. With a capacity of 800, a dedicated sound man and a light guy who has been there more than a dozen years, it's no wonder Alrosa can draw big names on their way up or down the musical ladder. National acts (Quiet Riot, Jackyl, David Lee Roth, MTV2's Head bangers Ball Tour) are thrilled to play here because it is always jam-packed with a rowdy, bleary-eyed and black-shirted, head-banging crowd. Some events are open to all age groups, and tickets are sold in advance. But always check the shows rating before you go; they also host events like Pornfest (a show and sale of x-rated items) that are not appropriate for everyone.

sad but true
By Shatteredimg on 07/25/2008
I went to the arv for many years, i always loved the place. i have seen some killer bands there. i have not been back there since Dime lost his life there, but i agree with another poster, it was gales fault, not the venue. it is sad that those 4 lost thier lives there, but put the blame where it needs to be, on gale for being a psycho, and even more so his mother for buying him the gun that killed these people when she knew full well he was a nut.

best venue ever
By razorburn444 on 01/16/2005
i dont know what anybody is talking about. ive been going to this place for about 10 years now. this is my favorite place to be ever. its the most personal venue ever. every other venue ive been to has barriars and uptight security that likes to beat on the kids in the crowd. this place is great, for the most part this is a very friendly place. you walk in and everybody you see is family. ive had bands pull me up on stage to perform with them, this is by far my favorite place on earth. in fact... my own band is talking to rick catella right now to try and get a show there next month ourselves. i dont see it as the place dime was killed at... i see it more of the place he gave his final performance at. an id be proud to share the same stage as the late dimebag.

Sad

It is tragic what happened to Dimebag Darrell, however, the only one at fault here is the guy who did it. Seems like this place did its best to bring excellent music to your city. The blame lies within Gale and whomever raised such a psycho.

your secutiry people should be dragged out in the street and shot
By mikeonis on 12/09/2004
what the hell kind of venue has such worthless security that a man can enter with a gun and start shooting people? A metal legend got killed, one of my personal heroes, because of your retarded staff! I don't care how much hate mail you get, your worthless venue deserves to be burned down the ground.
