Clarmont Restaurant   

Where's the beef, you say? It's here at The Clarmont. Established in the 1950s, this eatery has earned its chops by maintaining a unique and unchanging ambience. The menu is solid retro fare: steaks, lamb, veal, pork, surf 'n' turf and seafood such as scallops and shrimp. A favorite, chicken in a clay pot with mashed potatoes and vegetables, is only available until "it's gone." However, some 21st-century concessions have been made, including the addition of pasta and expansion of the wine list. Servers, some of whom have been there for decades, take down orders without pencil or paper and feel perfectly comfortable asking whatever personal question comes to mind. The Clarmont remains the businessperson's prime spot for that power breakfast and lunch. Dinner, on the other hand, adds some demographic spice with theatergoers (call ahead and they'll make sure you make curtain time), out-of-towners and assorted locals.
