Rate and Write a Review When Ohio farmer Bob Evans opened his first 12-seat restaurant in 1948, he couldn't find a supplier for good sausage. Not only did he transform some of the unluckier (or slower) pigs on his farm into some of the best sausage in the country, he did it so well that his empire now exceeds 15,000 seats in 500 eateries. Still, Columbus remains the chain's mothership -- the business began in Chillicothe -- and its restaurants are mobbed on weekends, with an hourlong wait. The success is in the simplicity. All meals are home-style favorites, at fair prices, in a country atmosphere. From everything-you-dare-to-dream-about breakfasts which are (thankfully) served all day long, to thick soups and sandwiches at noon, or meatloaf, turkey, steak tips and mashed potatoes for dinner. You'll find comfort foods and comforting atmosphere abound at the Evans' place, including special portions and prices for children and senior citizens, and little touches -- like readily available Braille menus and extra dessert spoons. It's no wonder the city folk keep running to Bob's country larder.
