Despite its honky-tonk exterior, the Grandview Caf draws a sophisticated crowd. Many are middle-aged singles, looking for a new start. Or they may just come for the chat, which seems relatively easy to get into if you sit at the plain but spotlessly buffed rectangular bar (if youre looking for two-legged buffs, though, try the Short North). Another draw of this unpretentious but comfortable local institution is the food, which manages to bridge both the meat-and potatoes genre (fish & chips, burgers) along with more sophisticated fare like hummus, salmon salad, even a round of Brie. And for those wanting to shape up for that potential mate, theres even a low-carb menu. Live music and a timeline of Grandview history on the wall are other potential conversation-starters and a sure way to socialize would be to come on a football Saturday, when the regulars come out in droves. Further foraging may be found upstairs or on the patio, and were not just talking about food here.
