Loud and raucous, this over-the-top restaurant serving immigrant southern Italian food is a great place to take a large group of friends or family. You'll need all those people to help you make a dent in the huge portions of spaghetti (the meatballs are enormous), eggplant parmigiana and chicken cacciatore (an entire chicken, folks). Salad plates also are overflowing -- literally. The food is not outstanding, but it's quite good (the chicken with lemon is a favorite). On the way to your table, the staff will give you the grand tour -- right through the kitchen (where you just might be seated for dinner) and through the various dining rooms, awash in all things Italian: old black-and-white family photos, opera and movie posters. Good luck trying to get the Pope's table -- with round-table seating for 20 and a bust of the John Paul II in the center of the Lazy Susan -- it's in high demand. In keeping with the theme, the restrooms are adorned with all things male (in the men's) and female (in the women's), and more than one group of women has taken a peek at the men's decor (with an escort, of course). -- Maureen McGavin

Not A Fine-Dining Experience
By cocovia555 on 02/13/2008
Go here for the food if you're hungry with no plans of impressing anyone. Dirty silverware and tables, paper napkins along with screaming children...the food is good but cannot make up for a low-class environment. Very bad place for a date.

I've been to this restaurant 3 times maybe 4..always someone new wanting to try this place...I try and steer them elsewhere but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........Well afterwards they know why....This IS NOT GOOD ITALIAN FOOD.........I''VE HAD BETTER OUT OF PIZZA SHOPS. Any Italian place that has a gimmick to get you there....well you know . Now some kid planted a seed in my kids head that this place was great for a brithday dinner.........NOW I HAVE TO GO BACK...HELP. MAYBE I'LL JUST SIT AT THE BAR AND PICK UP A PIZZA ON THE WAY HOME...IF I HAVE ANY MONEY LEFT......

Too good to call it a chain
By ggmmolly1 on 05/27/2005
A menu, that appeals to all tastes is something no restauraunt has ever accomplished, yet Bucca's attemp to please makes it one of the very few restaurants to even come close to such a monumental task. Only those looking for heavily fat and grease laden foods, would not find bliss in Bucca's menu. It is filled with flavorful, fresh tasting main dishes and salads that tantalize your tastebuds, without sending you to the medicine cabinet later looking for something to ease your indigestion. The fresh baked loaves of bread are an excellent accompanyment to the fresh tomato salads as well as a tasty way to help scoop your main dishes onto your fork while making sure that the delicious sauces are not left behind on your plate. The bustling atmosphere is one that is filled with people enjoying their meals and talking freely while the lively leval of chatter provides it's own brand of privacy to each table. True, there is not one waiter standing by for each table, but the service comes quickly and cheerfully often enough from excellent waitpersons aiming to make each tables experiance, pleasurable. My diet restrictions have even brought me a visit from one of the chef's on occasion and found them very accomodating. A must try is the Marinara pizza that is robust in flavor, yet does not drip down your arm or land in your tummy, like lead. It is their excellent quality that has made them a chain and also makes you forget they are a chain as you mangia,.....mangia.....mangia. Bravo!! Whether it's Lombard Illinois, Sacramento California, Columbus Ohio or Milwaukee Wisconsin the food, the service and the fun has never been a dissapointment. Molly Reda
