Drive up to the entrance of the Hyde Park Steakhouse and your vehicle will be placed among expensive (and usually foreign) cars by the courteous valet. The restaurant's inside is equally elegant and understated: Rooms are softly lit, with a discreet bar area set aside for smokers. The temptation to linger over appetizers such as oysters Rockefeller or lobster bisque is strong. The salad course comes next, offering hearts of romaine, goat cheese and greens, or Hyde Park Wedge with bacon and candied pecans. The major contenders for the main course are meat and fish. The first category includes basic cuts or gussied-up versions named after sports figures. For instance, spicy Steak Au Nicklaus contains fresh peppercorns and bordelaise sauce atop a New York strip. The seafood is more straightforward: lobster tails, king crab, skewered shrimp and more, along with surf 'n' turf. Side dishes are enough for two.

Inconsistent Food Quality
By rlbrooks726 on 05/12/2007
I ate with a group of 8. We each had a different steak and we shared a bite or two with each person. I had the 24 ounce bone-in ribeye, which is quite possibly the best steak I've ever eaten. Everyone agreed it was the best steak at our table. The porterhouse was a little tough, the filet mignon was a little dry, the nicklaus steak was awful and I have no idea how they ruined two pork chops...but they did. The bill for 8 people was over $500.00...simply ridiculous. A glass of draft beer was $6.00. Everything is ala carte. My steak was $38.00, hash browns were $6.50, salad is around 7 dollars. I might go back again, if only for the 24 ounce ribeye. It was perfectly prepared medium rare, seared on the outside, tender, juicy, fantastic flavor...no matter what the commercial says...A-1 was not needed. The service was very good.

Expansive-Not Quite Worth It
By blingking19 on 04/29/2007
My first visit I had the impression it was more of a upscale restaurant-but it really wasn't. It isn't what it used to be and that is for sure. I was quite impressed with the wine selection and that's about it. I wouldn't take anyone here I was trying to impress, the bill is hefty and I'm not sure it's worth it. If you really want the best steak in town go to The Hickory House in Powell, layed back but THE BEST. For a better steak and a upscale and trendy experience go to Mitchell's Steakhouse Crosswoods, you will pay for the atomsphere.
