Looking to dine fancy on a moderate budget? Despite its gussied-up decor, Tyfoon boasts offerings that are well under $20 and include curiosities like a Buddha plate, which is a meditation of stir-fried tofu and vegetables with teriyaki, and a Zen plate -- peace of mind through eggplant and mushrooms in brown sauce. Then there's the not-exactly-colorless white plate -- any four items on the menu accompanied by two types of rice and wasabi mashed potatoes (it serves three people). You can go for something as basic as herb-grilled New Zealand lamb or as intricate as spicy stir-fried calamari with green-tea noodles. Over two-dozen types of sushi are also available. Everything is served in an elegantly lit space done in soothing earth colors and divided by sheer curtains. Traditional Japanese masks share space with trendy Art Deco furniture, usual combinations that, like the food itself, somehow blend harmoniously.

A satisfying meal & experience
By h22prelude5th on 07/24/2007
Tyfoon is an excellent mix of contemporary dining and traditional service. The service is above par and the food is great especially at the price. For a wonderfully satisfying meal that wont burn a hole in your pocket, I recommend Tyfoon. There is a variety of Asian food to pick from, all of which will bring a smile to your face as the sauces and well cooked vegetables sizzle in your mouth. The environment was pleasant and soothing.

Very good, but not romantic
By timelovedeath on 01/21/2007
I took a woman here on a date last night, after seeing that it was rated as one of the top romantic restaurants. The service was excellent, the food was fantastic, but it didn't have the slightest bit of a romantic atmosphere. It was too brightly lit, the house music was a bit too loud, and the waitress stopped by a bit too often to check up on us. The tables are against a bench at one side, and a chair on the other, so you somehow feel connected to all the other tables. I would definitley recommend this place for a great meal, but not for a romantic date.
