Despite the name, Area 51 isn't into alien shtick. Rather, this dance club on the edge of downtown's West End is Dallas' version of New York's Studio 54. It's the slammin' dance club for the beautiful twentysomething crowd. The dress code is strictly enforced -- no jeans, baseball caps or T-shirts -- and you've got to look awesome even to get in the door. But keep in mind the club doesn't really rock 'til after midnight. Patrons gyrate in a pitlike dance floor -- it's below the main level and accessible by a steep staircase. DJs spin trance, the genre- of-the-moment music, and three full bars stand ready to provide liquid refreshment. There are plenty of tables, chairs and couches for lounging and watching the spectacle, too. -- Kathryn Jones

THIS CLUB SUX!!!I went to this club on Sept 6 (SAT)only because my guy friends were 18 and they wouldn't let them in Tiki Bob's, we already paid for parking and decided to just go to 51. I don't think I have had a more miserable night out in my life! Keep in my mind we were goin out for my bday so it was just horrible! We walked in about 12:00 and not one person was dancing! Seriously! A club where no one dances! After standing around a while a few people got on the dance floor so me and my friends go out there. Nothing but people in there 30's. Happy Freakin BDay to me! It suked we went home after about 15 minutes of that crap.

I got there at 10:30 on a Friday night. The cover was $5. Walked in and the place was empty. Mixed drinks are around $5. The music was all techno stuff but the sound system was pretty good. I stayed until 11:30 and the place was still empty although several dozen asian teenagers had started to show up. The club is 18 and over and I think I was the only white guy, and the only one over 21 in the whole bar when I left.
