Think you've seen it all when it comes to dance clubs? Think again. With five levels set within 35,000 square feet and a capacity of just under 1,500, Purgatory has raised the bar for the Dallas clubbing scene. Ten bars, a separate lounge area for the ladies and 14 plasma screen TVs are spread throughout this cauldron bubbling with nefarious night owls. The bottom level, appropriately tabbed "Hell," sports a dance floor with hard hops and a devilish vibe. Next up is "Purgatory," for all those struggling with their religion. Ascend another level and you've reached a two-tiered empyrean beginning with "Heaven" where the beats and the atmosphere start to become a little more angelic. By the time you reach "Upper Heaven," you should've attained a euphoric state of bliss that only a divine, uh, couple of rum and cokes can provide. If climbing from level to level works up your appetite, grab a bite at "Pandora," an upscale sushi hibachi restaurant.

Purgatory is the bomb! If you don't like Asians, don't go...it's that simple. This is America, people can go where they want to...and they don't have to go where they don't want to. So you don't have to go to Purgatory. I would prefer it that way....then I don't have to see your whining white ass messing up my club. Purgatory is the bomb!

Man, I remember when this place first opened. "Dallas' upscale" nightclub. I didn't even mind the $20 cover b/c they kept the "hoodlums" out. But now just like CLUB BLUE Purgatory has realized that the deep ellum market despite all the nice new residences being built is "ghetto" The people that are going to frequent the clubs and generate $$$ for the clubs there are "ghetto" and if they are going to keep their doors open they have to cater to them. Not to mention that it seems that Purgatory has inherited the old "Liquid 2000" crowd! WoW! I didn't even know that there was that many asians in Dallas, and they all are at Purgatory. Guys! If you're looking to pick up chicks here... Slim chances, bring your own or you will be bored all night. It is a little better with Billy the Kid and KISS being there, but the 1st floor is 4 da Thugs 2nd floor for techno breakers 3rd floor for the Asians

I guess it could be worse.

This club has completely gone down hill since opening, The "upscale" sushi restaraunt next door, Pandora, is no longer there either. The reason why the drinks are overpriced and the cover charge at the door is so stiff is due to all the money they put into this place for decor, it takes a lot more to make a bar desirable although it is quite hip inside. Purgatory is going down the same road as BLUE, I remember when it opened it was hailed as something Dallas had never seen before," the MOST upscale club in Dallas". Now this place is nothing more than a ghetto, only popular on a few nights and all African American. I do hope for the sake of the people I know that work at Purgatory that they change some things, or I see this club going belly up in another year or so.

It depends on what you like

I enjoyed myslef at this club! I went to Purgatory on a night when African Americans genreally go and I think that the issue with a lot of people who have complaints is that they dont normally party with the twenty one and over crowd. Most of the twenty one clubs still allow eighteen year olds to get in and that, in turn, makes the crowd really young. Since they don't do this at Purgatory the crowd is very mature! Not necissarly in age, but in attitude. No sorrority of fraternity struts, no fights, no conflicts, just good old fashioned drinking, dancing, and socializing in a very nice atmosphere. Everyone should atleast try to go once! And if you put yourself on the VIP e-mail list, you pay less at the door! ~BMG
