The Aardvark is a 30-something-year-old veteran of the Fort Worth music scene near TCU. Once known as the Hop, the club has launched musical careers, entertained generations of bored students and been featured in a movie. The comfortable, old club features national touring bands and quality local talent in its spacious one room, which contains a bar and a stage at opposite ends. You can hear musical styles ranging from folk to alternative rock to genres that have yet to be defined. This flexibility is an example of the Aardvark's friendly, party atmosphere, but there is more to its success than the relaxed attitude. The sound system is built for music, and the place has a history of taking pre-emptive chances on new local talent. Renovations have made it roomier, although it could already accommodate a small army. The Aardvark attracts students by offering cheap cover charges, casual dress and quality live music, but it's a great venue for anyone who wants to drop the pretenses, kick back and join the party. -- Gary Taylor

I saw the band Swilley and liked them a lot for a young group. The punk at the door taking tickets is a real jerk, doesn't help their business having him there.I have seen him offend as well as been offended myself.

TCU or WT

This bar is usually the hang out of the college kids from TCU, but if you catch it on a bad night it ends up full of old country lovers. That is rare though, so just check that TCU is not in the middle of midterms or finals. The music is usually one of the best in Fort Worth provided by live bands. The joint doesn't look like much, but it's the people that count. There are TV's for sports and a pool table. Bathrooms are a bit run down. The only downside is that it usually is a bit loud. But that's what bars are for, eh? Also if you are under age, this place is sometimes all ages, but sometimes 18 and up.
