WE'RE SORRY, THIS VENUE IS NOW CLOSED.Deep Ellum's roots are in the blues and, since 1989, Blue Cat Blues has been the venue to showcase its rich history. Legends such as Willie Big Eye Smith, Zuzu Bolin and Johnny Clyde Copeland have played the Blue Cat, as locals call it. The club seeks out top regional and national touring bands as well as local musicians. It's hard to get a bad seat in the place, with numerous tables and chairs tucked between the huge stage and the bar; the room can get pretty noisy just from conversation. There's an outdoor patio when the weather's nice and the Blue Delta Restaurant next door serves as a place to get a quick bite before the show. The Blue Cat draws a mixed clientele of all ages, and musicians also hang out here. Look for owner Doug Henry, a.k.a. the "Big Cat" (believe me, you can't miss him), who promises to refund your money if you don't like the music. -- Kathryn Jones

The Club is closed. Out of commission. Just verified w/the owner. It is closed. It had been going down hill and finally died.

Was deeply disappointed on Thursday 3/2 when I traveled to Dallas for a Miller Convention and planned on seeing Corey Stevens on 3/2 at Blue Cat Blues. For some odd reason Stevens cancelled the show due to weather - what was that all about? I thought blues players drove buses?! The bar wasn't even open, instead the doors were closed and my buddy and I got soaked in the rain. BCB looked like a cool place to hang out - but we walked away with a bad case of the blues.
