Many bars on Lower Greenville have tried. Unfortunately, many have failed. Over the years, a slew of watering holes along the city's oldest and most recognizable party strips have tried to establish themselves as the authority on beer. One must be careful as to not confuse what defines a good "beer" bar. It's not the number of beers on hand, or the number of tap handles behind the bar. Instead it's the quality of the selection. Gezellig, with its critically- and connoisseur- lauded brands Maredsous 10, Paulener Hefe, along with Belgian trappist ales like Chimay Blue and Orval, is truly a beer enthusiast's Valhalla. In order to bring out the taste of a good Belgian ale, you also need tasty vittles. Gezellig offers a long European menu with sandwiches like "The Nowitzki" (corned beef, knockwurst and melted cheddar and Swiss) and "The Italian" stuffed with salami, ham, melted provolone and Italian dressing on focaccia bread.
