Featuring an entire wall dedicated to multiple video screens, JR's Bar & Grill on Cedar Springs Road is a multi-story party and cruising venue aimed at Dallas' younger gay community. But it's not unusual for a few straight people to hang out there for drinks, chat and dancing. Located in Dallas' Oak Lawn area north of downtown, the center of the city's gay and lesbian community, the upscale venue is recognized as one of Dallas' premiere gay clubs. The spacious, trendy interior gets a little crowded with predominantly 20-to 30-something, mostly well-heeled patrons frolicking to the beat of Top 40, disco, rock and the pulsing video flash. If the music gets too loud, the second-story balcony provides relief from the noise and an interesting view of the traffic on Cedar Springs Road. JR's Cedar Springs location, in proximity with similar clubs that are easily within walking distance, ensures that the bar is jammed with bar hoppers on weekends. -- Gary Taylor
