An Italian mood is created with floral arrangements centered in high, bricked-wall arches, and comfy seating at candlelit tables draped with classy red oilcloth. An old-fashioned deli cooler within eye range holds slabs of mozzarella and fresh meats. Mona Lisa pictures are scattered just about everywhere -- it has become a tradition for customers to bring them in, just to add to the owner's collection. Little wall cubbies hold special mementos, including ancient books on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. But despite all the distractions, you can't get past the steaming-hot Alfredo; the sauce is extra thick, smooth and yummy. The menu is incredibly varied; the "regs" are sometimes here daily, and never complain about eating the same ol' thing. Come with a big appetite, since all of the plates here are served full. If you don't "doggy bag," get a half order. Prices are more than reasonable either way. -- Mary Barber
