Dickey's Barbecue Pits   

Dickey's, having been around for almost 60 years now, has perfected the art of slow-smoking meat over hickory wood until it's fork-tender and full of flavor, and just the odor of it wafting toward you will stir up any appetite. It's best to decide exactly what you want before you get in line, because there are so many appealing choices -- nine types of meat and poultry and 20-some side dishes; dinners or sandwiches; or one of the daily specials. Indecisive people can opt for the sampler platter, which includes a taste of each of the meats. The lean, tender slices of brisket, pork and turkey are our favorites, and we like to pair them with the dill potato salad, macaroni and cheese, barbecued beans and coleslaw. The only other choice is hot or mild barbecue sauce (hot), and you're ready for a chow-down. Parents especially like the weekend special-one free child's meal with each adult purchase of $5.99 or more. The large dining area is filled with no frills, wooden square tables.
