Newport's Seafood Restaurant   

Not as trendy as, but far more enduring than its local counterparts, Newport's is not your typical flavor of the week. While Dallas contains plenty of hip, pricey seafood joints to see and be seen in, Newport's instead offers a more traditional menu and time-tested recipes. This combination keeps its regular crowd coming and attracts many a curious tourist. The West End space, a former brewery still boasting original hardwoods and exposed brick, is also ideal for a romantic dinner for two. Swordfish, shrimp and lobster are menu mains with house specialties like the apple-pecan tilapia (grilled, with caramelized granny smith apples, fresh cilantro and roasted Texas pecans in citrus butter). Their extensive wine list has been recognized by Wine Spectator magazine for several years. Add attentive and courteous service to this already-excelling establishment and you can see why Newport's is a native's favorite seafood house. -- Jessica Parker
