The narrow, pebbled path through the Japanese garden gives you an immediate sense of Tei Tei. Its serene Zen-minimalist design promotes relaxation and prepares you for a stunning meal. Inside, you'll find sleek, sophisticated decor -- gleaming panels of maple, copper and stainless steel, long, deep windows and Japanese pottery. The striking setting is rivaled by Tei Tei's (which translates as little castle) outstanding, ambitious cuisine -- no hibachi grill in sight. Robata is a traditional cooking style of northern Japan that uses open wood-fired grills (which was all the rave in Tokyo circa 1998, when the Tei Tei opened). Still on the cutting edge of cuisine, the outstanding menu features a stunning mix of flavors, textures and temperatures. In addition to sizzling snapper, seared king mackerel and succulent sea bass, there also are veggies and poultry, as well as the rare delight: Kobe beef, from the world's most expensive cow. Exquisite sushi and sashimi grace the menu. Not surprising given its trendy Knox-Henderson locale, Tei Tei tends to attract the beautiful people (so dress to impress). -- Allison Hatfield

I found the cuisine very good but the place loses points with me due to the employee attitude and impersonal service.

Sushi Anyone?
By patrioticon on 11/15/2004
I have never been big on fish and the thought of sushi use to turn me off. I tried sushi for the first time a few months ago in Houston and enjoyed some of what I tried. I have eaten at Tei Tei twice now. The first time about a week ago from the date of this review and I craved it everyday since so I took a friend this evening. I enjoyed everything I have eaten there (unagi sushi, big eye tuna sashimi, cali. rolls & tempura soft shell crab-one of my new favorites, & pan seared tuna). The service is very good (pulling out your chair, refilling your drinks ect). The only downside would be that it is very small and can fill up quickly at peak hours. My friend that ate with me both times likes the food as well and he has eaten sushi at many different sushi restaurants around the counrty as well as in Japan. I highly recommend it. They have many other dishes as well, including washu beef (kobe) if you're not a sushi fan.
