From the outside, images of a giant '50s jukebox may come to mind. There's lots of shiny chrome, neon and glass -- building materials more suited for a diner than a serious steak and crab house. But don't be fooled by appearances; they're very serious about their beef and crab here. The claws are flown in year-round from places as remote as the Yucatan peninsula. The beef is Angus-prime and flawless. As much care is given to the service and details of the decor. The booths are luxurious and spacious, complimented by dark woods, an onyx bar and large, round tables. The sense of stuffiness is lacking -- you can really unwind and settle into a relaxing meal. The bar carries more than 50 wines, vintage champagnes and a martini menu. Patio dining is available. -- John Vega

It could have been worse

Had dinner at the McKinney Ave location. 7pm, 26 Jun 06. Crab and steak were wonderful. Service was off the mark. On several occasions received the wrong item for our table. First the wrong salad. Next two orders of crabs when only one was ordered. Waiter never asked for my entree choice. When the 2 crab dinners were delivered I had to order my NY strip which came halfway through dinner. The strip can't be beat so it was worth waiting for. While we're having desert another salad was delivered to our table! Finally the bill which included the errant crab dinner. All screwups were corrected, just too many of them.

PERFECT IN EVERY WAY

The diner look of this place might stop you from venturing into Truluck's but don't be fooled by appearances. This trendy eatery is A++++. Dined there last night with out-of-town friends. The only one in our party who had dined there before, I was thrilled that they didn't disappoint. Food and service consistently outstanding. Jason, our waiter was awesome, attentive to every need. The food was fabulous. . .a must-try is the tenderloin medallions with portabello mushrooms, tobacco onions and green peppercorn demi-glaze. Melts in your mouth. If you're looking for a nice quiet place, this is NOT it. . . but a fun, funky atmosphere with a friendly staff.

Horrible food and overpriced
By nina954 on 09/23/2005
We read the reviews on Turluck's and decided to try it out. Unfortunately, the food was horrible. The oysters in the appetizer were so small you needed a magnifying glass to see them and the Stone Crabs had been beaten to the point that I was biting shells. They were soggy and I sent them back. The waitress was inexperienced and clueless. I have to recognize the manager for trying to remedy the situation. but it seemed that everything they offered tasted terrible. I would not recommend this restaurant.
