My first time at Jay"s
A friend of mine invited me to dine at Jays since I am a die hard seafood lover who has had the oportunity to dine on seafood in many different countries. We did have reservations and I must agree with a prior reviewer that the older Lady (the Hostess) was one of the most unfriendly people I have met. However, the reservation was for 8 PM and our table was ready at eaxctly 8PM!!!, very impressive. The waiter was just excellent, one of a kind, albeit I threw many questions at him he was knowledgable, calm and had an unbeatable sense of humor. When our food arrived (Wild Salmon) not only was it pleasing to the eye but cooked to absolute perfection, best Seafood I have ever had in my entire life. Jays has just won a new guest for a very long time to come.
What's All the Hype About?
Recently, in late June, we dined at Jay's for a birthday dinner.
All of us have been long time residents of the Miami Valley so we are "familiar" to "very familiar" with Jay's.
There were 4 couples and a single.
Let me start by saying I have long felt Jay's was over-rated. If this restaurant was in an ocean community.....San Diego, Boston or NYC is wouldn't even be on the map. I think their seafood is average to say the least.
The service I would rate as outstanding. Their people are trained well, and they truly seem to enjoy their job.
I would like to comment on the older lady who serves at the hostess. Although I am sure very nice, she does come off as rather up-idy and forget it if you are not one of the regulars. She appeared to blow us off........
We were not able to get a reservation for our birthday gathering as Jay's does not take reservations.
There were nine of us and in spite of getting their at 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening our group ended up sitting at two different
tables as they could not accomodate us at one table. Not what you would expect ....and needless to say very disappointing! They do have one large table, but it was occupied by another party. Consequently, three couples sat at one table and three people sat along at another!!!!! Some birthday celebration.
The prices are in line with what one would expect for fresh seafood.
Overall, nice looking place, good service, very average seafood.
To not take reservations for a party of six or more is upsurd....
