Rate and Write a Review It's ironic that what makes this Denver staple so successful is its continued appeal to younger generations. Rather than hanging on to history, the bar has repeatedly reinvented itself, finally finding its place in 1970 as My Brother's Bar. Originally known as the Highland House as far back as 1873, and eventually known as Paul's Place (a favorite spot of Beat fella Neal Cassady), today it's known for burgers and beer. But not just any burgers or any beer -- the latest owners have taken pains to put together a high-quality yet basic menu. You won't find anything but the best brews on tap and the burgers, as simple as they sound, have acquired legendary status nowadays. The laidback atmosphere is just made for an intimate tete-a-tete or roundtable discussion among friends. The house pulls pints and pitchers of bar stalwarts Boddington's, Newcastle, Stella Artois, Amstel Light and Red Hook, plus up and comers Lefthand Jackson, Twisted Pine, Great Divide, HC Berger Kolsch and Tabernash Weiss, to name a few. Featured burgers include the Steerburger, JCB (jalapeno cream cheese burger), the Ralphie (a bison burger), and the Johnnyburger (three cheeses and green onions), all available in single or double portions. Burgers aren't the only food on the menu though, and heartier entrees are available for fair prices. Finger foods like jalapeno poppers and nachos go well with beer, but let's face it -- it's the beer and burgers that draw the crowd here.
