The Coral Room, located in the Highland neighborhood, takes high fusion, space-agey Googie decor and good-natured cheekiness to its absolute zenith. The restaurant's menu places traditional Asian dishes like soba noodles side-by-side with entree entries like Cajun Pasta. The slick retro decor merges Austin Powers-era palates (avocado and teal dominate) with traditional touches like a sweeping bar. And then there's the "Dress Code: Be Yourself" sign welcoming patrons to the restaurant, a knowing wink to that decade when "being yourself" was an important part of the scene.Though the '60s ride again in the Coral Room's look, the food is all about the future. Asian fusion with American elements is the theme, as the restaurant's cooking staff spices up everything from coconut curry to ahi tuna with nontraditional touches. While the Coral Room's lunch menu is a little slim -- it consists mostly of soups, salads and the odd light plate -- nighttime diners are treated to a full array of items that are unique. Guess the policy of being yourself extends to every element of the Coral Room. -- Matt Schild

Wonderful, exciting food!
By fcvncheryl on 10/31/2005
Having been to the Coral Room several times, I can say I have never been disappointed. I have taken business peers, friends and family and not heard anything but excellent comments. The service is prompt, friendly, and helpful! The atmosphere is serene and lovely, indoors and out. The Coral room's chef is one talented person, his dishes are created with imgaination and skill. The Vietnamese Spring Rools, the Corn Chowder and Carrot Ginger soups, and the Sea Bass are among my favorites. Welcome to our neighborhood, Carol Room! Cheryl Livingston Markson

Nice Place

The atmosphere is hip and quarters are tight in one of the better eateries in the Highlands. The food and service are always good - i've eaten here 5 or 6 times. They have a good wine selection as well. it isn't as inexpensive as some of the competition, but the food makes it worth the cost.
