Devil's Food   

Gerald Shorey's confectionary creations have long satiated the smitten sweet-tooths frequenting his Washington Park bake shop, but the expansion of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options has transformed this little cafe into a full-fledged French-ified spot. In keeping with the devilish theme, walls are painted racy red, while the floors and tables are both jet black. There are a few farmhouse accents strewn throughout, along with a retro mustard yellow sofa in which to sink your tush while waiting for a table. A morning stop reveals the best eggs benedict in town, while the lunch menu touts French onion soup, a slew of salads and sandwiches, and savory quiches. Dinner is the main event, with steak frites, chicken paillard, Provencal style shrimp linguini, and a host of nightly specials (like pan-roasted salmon paired with a fresh spinach and heirloom tomato salad) rounding out the petite roster.
