El Chap doesn't serve fancy food, just tasty, basic Mexican. There is no elegant decor or dress code, although you are expected to behave yourself. And this isn't a dance hall. In fact, there are signs strictly forbidding dancing of any sort. But, most of all, El Chap is definitely something you should NOT miss. Back in the day -- "the day" being when LoDo was considered skid row -- the stage was graced with big name stars. And the stage continues to be lit up by more talent than you would expect. Owner and music aficionado Jerry Krantz knows jazz and certainly knows how to pack 'em in. If you're going to hang out all night, make sure you bring some dough -- there is a one-drink minimum per set. Still, it's a bargain at twice the price. And if you're digging the scene, but jazz just ain't your thing, you can rack 'em up in the pool room. -- Amy Lewis

I guess the idea of going to a little hole in the wall jazz club is extremely appealing to a lot of people, but for folks who like to drink, play pool, and have a good time, this place doesn't really shine. One half is a very small bar, and the other half is like a converted diner with a pool table in the middle that is unusable if there is anyone else in the room. OK music, OK drinks, OK people, etc. It's an OK bar.

My rating has and will always be first rate. The Club has been in it's location since the day after prohibition ended. You never know who will show up. Many greats over the years have come down to the PEC after their gig. My rating for the writer however is thumbs down. The PEC does not, has not and nor will ever ROCK. If you study Music you will find Jazz is not in the same context as ROCK .Therefore as a writer either you just got your Degree from The Rolling Stone Magazine or you are just another Minimum wage writer !
