Rate and Write a Review Located five miles from downtown Boulder, Flagstaff House is a place that makes dinner a real, not rushed, event. Built as a cabin in 1929, Flagstaff House has been operated by the Monette family since 1971 with Don, the patriarch, at the helm and assisted by sons Mark (chef) and Scott (general manager). Even without the food, the stunning mountain views from 6,000 feet make Flagstaff a top pick. Fortunately, the food is just as good with entrees that feature French cooking with Asian accents. The menu offers rack of Colorado lamb, pancetta-wrapped quail, hazelnut-crusted red snapper with fresh shrimp, buffalo filet mignon and venison loin. All of this is accompanied by a 160-page award-winning wine list. However, sophistication has its price as $30 entrees are the norm and an accompanying salad will run another $10. Still, special events and romantic interludes deserve a bit of extravagance. Splurging at the Flagstaff is a true upscale, epicurean experience. -- Drew Myron
