Rate and Write a Review Denver is still a sports town at heart, although the 2002 addition of the Larimer Lounge to the battery of music clubs brings it one step closer to becoming the musical mecca that many of its patrons envision. Small and intimate, although not too cramped to draw some serious talent, the lounge was opened by promoters Scott Campbell and Mark Gebhardt, who previously booked shows at the equally smarmy 15th Street Tavern. The move uptown -- the Lounge sits in the shadow of the Ballpark neighborhood, a place not usually associated with down and dirty rock -- hasn't forced any phony airs on the venue. The sort of club that straddles the line between bar and small venue (locals congregate early in the evening before bands take the stage to enjoy happy hour specials), the lounge specializes in booking smallish punk, indie and underground acts. While the decor may be slightly seedy, its patrons will tell you it's the only club within line drive of Coors Field that can boast a truly genuine rock atmosphere.
