Since 1997, this North Denver Mexican has made patrons sweat with its stellar selection of salsas -- salsas so good, in fact, that Bon Appetit magazine lavished its own praise on the joint, citing it as one their favorite places to eat in Denver. The reasons are clear: the dining quarters are clean, comfortable and colorful, and service -- despite language barriers -- is efficient and friendly. The expansive menu goes beyond the ubiquitous combination plates of yellow-cheesed burritos and enchiladas. Order those if you must, but you're far better off making a fiesta of soft corn tacos harboring delicious meats like barbacoa, pork adobada, chorizo and tongue, or slurping down the caldo de camaron, a piquant tomato based shrimp soup stocked with vegetables. No matter what you order, fresh salted chips and a half dozen salsas are offered gratis, and all are addictive, especially the tomatillo and avocado puree, specked with Serrano peppers.
