Rate and Write a Review Imagine two levels of raucous sing-along Irish music, fueled by 20 taps. Opened in 1975 by ex-Detroit police officer John Brody, the Shillelagh has spent years on the map as a comfortable neighborhood joint seasoned with a twist of all things Irish. Overhead, a stained glass sign that proclaims, in Gaelic, "One-hundred Thousand Welcomes" sets the tone for the loud, friendly, beer-drinking reputation this pub enjoys. Weekends are particularly rowdy, as the sign behind the bar ("No Reservations on Saturday, First Come -- First Seated") hints. Wall mirrors, emblazoned with stout beer brand names, reflect the many Irish nuances of the bar. These include the family-style table set-ups around the stage and the green string lights that twinkle from the ceiling above. With beer served in traditional glass mugs and shepard's pie on the menu, the Old Shillelagh Pub is truly an Irish experience not to be missed.
