Rate and Write a Review The Detroit legend, hands down. You can't argue this and even if you tried, you'd still lose. Any band worth its frets has played here; most importantly, they did so back in the days when it seemed to matter the most. St. Andrew's hosted the Chili Peppers in 1984, Soundgarden in 1989 and Nirvana and Pearl Jam in 1991. You get the picture. And not much has changed these days. The converted church is still home to the storied live music venue (two, actually; the main floor concert area and the more intimate Shelter in the basement). Friday night allows for Three Floors of Fun, with the Shelter, St. Andrew's and the upper-level Burns Room affording all of the techno, hip-hop and rock one can stomach. The main floor concert area is all wide-open hardwood with a staple-shaped balcony above for elevated seating. Everyone has a St. Andrew's story. Go make yours.
