Naming a nightclub after another city's most popular part of town seemed kind of unoriginal and lame at first, but this downtown Detroit spot has succeeded on its own terms. Actually, despite being one of the first venues to introduce the oxygen bar to Stroh's-ville, it has met with an exceptionally warm reception. DJs spin mostly hip-hop and Top 40 tunes, which, for those who like to dance, is a pretty good mix. The main bar is one of the first things you see on entry, with techno and hip-hop rooms flanking it. The main dance floor is big and roomy and generally starts to fill up, in typical club fashion, just after midnight. With a wait staff that is notoriously good-looking and bartenders who pour more booze than ice, Times Square has fit snugly in the downtown Detroit nightlife landscape. Crowds vary, as night vultures tend to come out on weekends, but expect a mostly amiable gathering or people looking to dance, rather than an exhibition of posturing and aggressive behavior.
