Nightlife in Hamtramck is legendary, from hole-in-the-wall dives to fantastic live music venues. The city can now add one of metro Detroit's most comprehensive and dynamic gay and lesbian clubs to its roster. Ice opened in October 2006 in the space formerly occupied by Diesel. The gentlemen behind the former Space nightclub in Pontiac have brought Friday nights (women) and Saturday nights (men) to life for Detroit's gay community. With roughly 10,000 square feet, a massive dance floor and upper level balcony-type seating overlooking the whole thing, visitors have their pick of personal bedroom-type spaces, quiet lounge areas or can visit The Dungeon. The latter is exactly what it sounds like, replete with 8-foot leather cross, steel cage, whips and chains. DJs throw serious dance music on both nights, which features a full, random blast of CO2, filling up the entire club in a thick cloud and dropping the temperature 30 degrees. Wednesdays are hetero nights, with a local pop radio station broadcasting live.

Ice is not Nice!
By theaxman2k on 02/18/2007
While the music may be ok, as a "user-friendly" bar, this place sucks! there are only two bathrooms, of which both have lines that stretch half the length of the building at any given time. If the owners of Ice were even mildly intelligent they would realize that every minute someone is standing in line waiting to use the bathroom that is one less minute they are waiting in line to buy a drink, actually the long lines for the bathrooms discourage people from drinking. It discouraged me, I didn't want to buy drinks then have to wait 15-20 minutes in line for the bathroom. Other downers to this bar, are lately there have been a number of fights that have broken out. I have been there three times in the past 2 months and there have been 2 fights there, and the funny thing is, i'm not 100% positive on this, but I think the same guys were involved in the fights on seperate occasions! I also witnessed one patron doing drugs in the upstairs lounge area on the couches near the beds on my last visit. Too much drama for me, I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. This may be the only real gay club in the detroit area (backstreet, what???), but come on....just because you have the market cornered and people dont really have much of a choice, doesnt mean you have to treat them that way. Open a large bathroom in the basement!

Secure, safe parking and space to play! The music was okay, the people were the best!
