It's a safe bet that most of the folks stuck to the Anchor's barstools are there to bask in the pre- or post-game glow of a Red Wings hockey game at nearby Joe Louis Arena. The crowds ebb and flow with the Wings season, but the Anchor's not a sports bar, per se -- rather, it's more like a neighborhood bar without a neighborhood; it's an elbow-tipping, grumbling armchair sports commentator-friendly joint. Maybe that inherent cynicism comes from the Anchor's place in the hearts and livers of Detroit's journalists who frequent the bar. After work, the Anchor is the perfect place to grab a happy hour drink before -- more likely than not -- heading home to the suburbs. Unassuming, dark-but-not-dingy with fried food on the menu and hovering clouds of smoke, the Anchor is a true downtown watering hole.

Cheap drinks and good eats. Its a bar so its very smoky. They only have a jukebox machine. But has adequate room for eating and chilling out. I enjoyed myself.
