This place is the definition of "legendary." The longest-standing jazz house in the world, with dcor and a lineup to uphold its tradition, Baker's is undoubtedly one Detroit's points of civic pride. Two-person booth seating and long, shared tables provide a room full of veritable front row seats to a center-stage wrapped in mirrors. Over the years, the loud whoops of jazz buffs have provided Baker's with a solid name in live entertainment. Nearly every week, big band and jazz set the backdrop for late night snacks of fried catfish balls and cocktails. Just don't be alarmed when someone sharing your table joins the resident musicians: several nights a week, an open jam showcases Detroit's local talent and anyone's free to jump onstage. These musicians can say they have played where jazz greats Cannonball Adderly and John Coltrane once did.
