Although the Box underwent a major renovation in 1999, it still holds the reputation as one of the best dives in western Wayne County. The bar, which sits just off of downtown Plymouth's Kellogg Park, serves typical bar fare but is best known for its burgers. Served in baskets on paper plates, the patties ooze juice that the run-of- the-mill buns take in. Nacho chips, with medium spicy salsa on the side, are a preferred complement. Since its face-lift, the Box Bar has increased its stock of beer to more than 200 brands, putting it on par with more well-known beer gardens in the area. The bar provides a homey atmosphere, with beer mugs lining the walls and humorous phrases painted on the ceiling beams. Banquet chairs bookend booths. The Box is one of southeastern Michigan's best-kept secrets. -- Christina Fuoco
