The view. We could leave it at that, and it might just suffice, but the August 2004 opening of the mother of all Detroit steakhouses (apologies to everyone else) is such an assault on the senses, minimizing its impact would be short of a crime. Take your pick. Start with the stockyard-aged Angus steaks (aged for 28 days and then broiled at 1,700 degrees to sear in the flavor), and work your way wherever you wish, from over-the-top decadence of 2-ounce seared foie gras to prosciutto-wrapped kurobuta pork loin to coriander and ginger rubbed Colorado rack of lamb (served with Israeli cous cous, braised green beans, glazed carrots and basil mint yogurt), all done with intense craftsmanship from Chef Joe Bachman. Seafood supreme is the pan-seared day boar tuna and wild Alaskan king salmon (served with warm heirloom tomatoes, Michigan sweet corn saute and fresh basil garlic butter sauce). The second-highest restaurant in the United States, it's perched perfectly on the 71st and 72nd floors of the Renaissance Center, former home of the Summit. Crisp, white tablecloths and keen martini booths in the lounges are perfect touches to this elegant and regal dining room. The restaurant pays homage to the city's rich industrial heritage, hence the "Coach" part of the name, itself a tribute to the famous Fisher Body. Wrap-around windows afford to diners a view unrivaled in this city, at least in a dining venture. Stunning and delicious immediately come to mind. With a windup and delivery like this, we won't even mention the dessert options.

Poor Example of "Tops"
By lawsie131 on 08/03/2007
Went for my sons graduation dinner. We were excited at first with the view and some things we had heard about it. The excitement wore off rather quickly with the aweful service, mediocre food, very high prices for nothing. We were sat next to a tacky event that was going on with loud musak, There is little elegance to this place. Some of our guest were from out of town and were justifably very unimpressed. I could go on...I would never go back to this place or recommend it to anyone. Too bad it is called one of the "top" places in Detroit. There are other places in the city that deserve the recognition.

Valentine's Day
By mo4yomoney999 on 03/13/2007
My girlfriend and I went to Coach Insignia for valentine's day. It was the first time that i actually went to a higher class restaurant. It was absolutely amazing for both me and her. The skyline was amazing to look at while dining. The service was un-imaginable. The elegance was the one that really got me. I recommend it to everyone looking for a romantic dining experience.

Restaurant Lover

This restaurant is excellent. The food and service is superb. Don't look at the price, look at what you are getting. This is what you call fine dining with a beautiful view.
