When most people think of Detroit, they usually don't imagine lush foliage, alluring patios and Roman columns. But you can find all that and more at La Dolce Vita, one of the city's many Italian spots and certainly one of its best-kept secrets. Located right on bustling Woodward, the modest facade makes it easy to miss this Palmer Park oasis of calm and great food. The mandatory $4 valet parking is a drag, but the seedy surroundings make it understandable and the tasty, creative dishes worth it. Sample favorites like veal or eggplant parmesan or try new concoctions like goat cheese Alfredo. The white tablecloths and low lighting make it a good date spot; the wine list and trickling patio fountain make it a perfect place to bring out-of-town guests you're looking to impress.

Not alot for the money

The last time I went there, I dont think there was one gay person there. The prices are high and the food is okay. It has changed alot over the years when it used to be Salute's(which was much better) Backstage restaurant was next door before it burned down. I miss those places. La Dolce Vita is barely if at all gay any more.

good food, bad policies

Food was good. Ambience good. Romantic on patio having a martini. However, my partner and I racked up a bill of about $110 with wine, etc...we were asked to get out. I mean, no ifs ands or buts. we had been there about 90 mins and they said their limit was 90 mins. In fact, they have gone so far to put it in their menu. I think when people go to an expensive restaurant, they dont go like they would MacDonalds...in and out. They usually go to meet up with a friend or go on a romantic dinner to celebrate something special. No one wants to watch their time so closely. Most people are there to enjoy themselves and most people that can afford this dinner are not abusive low lifes drinking water and eating crackers and sitting for 4 hrs. This is the most offensive restaurant strategy I have ever seen. No other restaurant I have dined at (I eat at upscale restaurants all over US at least 2x/wk) has ever done this!!
