Rate and Write a Review Many imposters have come and gone, but the longevity of Menjo's, Detroit's longest-standing gay/lesbian night- and dance club, remains unrivaled. Following a flip-flop from its restaurant days in the early 1970s, Menjo's quickly became the most popular and recognizable gay gathering spot in metro Detroit. And it still is. While places like Cobalt. and The Temple have opened and closed in a micron of the time Menjo's has been around, this Eight Mile legend remains the titan of gay nightlife. A 2001 makeover, complete with an interior redesign and implementation of a crisp, yet booming sound system, was yet additional testimony to Menjo's staying power. The dance floor is typically busy, especially later in the night. In the event of pleasant weather, the little outdoor deck in the back is a perfect getaway. A full bar helps fuel the often-meat market vibe, but then, Menjo's has always been known for buzz, booze, bodies and boogie, so a the leering should surprise nobody.
