One whiff inside of Old Village Bakery is all it takes to understand that this is no run-of-the-mill bakery. Could be because this family run business has been delivering award-winning tortes, cupcakes, special occasion cakes (you should see some of the amazing wedding towers they build) and pastries to Metro Detroiters since 1970. While perhaps best known for their indescribably good buttercream frosting (just writing about it sets off a Pavlovian reaction), Old Village Bakery stands in a league of its own with pretty much everything they produce. Get there early -- the bakery opens at 4AM most days -- and taste some heaven on earth just as it leaves the oven.

This Bakery is Closed!
I ordered a cake for my daughter in-law's baby shower to be ready on Saturday, June 7th 2008 at the Troy location. I was called one week before to let me know that the Troy location had closed and that I would need to pick my cake up at the Mound Rd. Store. Not a problem, but I called and asked to have the cake ready for Friday, June 6th. That way I knew I would have the cake in time and would not be running around the morning of the shower. When I arrived at the Mound Rd. location about 11:30 am on Friday June 6th there was a sign on the door, something about a mechanical failure... something else about the next Tuesday and then it said Closed and underneath that "Sorry" No phone call, nothing. I still have not heard from them! The Fox and Hounds Pastry Den came through last minute!
CAKES ARE TO DIE FOR
MY SISTER LIVES UP NORTH IN TRAVERSE CITY AND ONCE FOR HER BIRTDAY SHE WANTED ME TO BUY HER A BD CAKE FROM OLD VILLAGE BAKERY...THAT IS HOW MUCH SHE LOVES THEM.... I HAVE ORDERED A MAJORITY OF MY BD CAKES AND SHEET CAKES FROM THEM.....MANY COMPLIMENTS AND THE FROSTING IS DIVINE..
wedding cakes & rats
Ask where they store the wedding cakes if you plan on getting yours from there...last time it was in the basement with spiders. I also see lots of rat or mice droppings...disgusting!!!
