You might expect one small room after judging the outside of The Hill, but there are several different areas to lounge in once you make your way inside. A splendid aquarium filled with neon- bright fish provides a colorful backdrop to the entryway, where a maitre d' awaits to show you to your table. Even if your initial greeting seems indifferent, go ahead and take a seat because cheerful servers and reasonably restrained jazz music quickly brighten the mood. Natural light, strong colors and a gas fireplace also help set the tone for the evening. The warm and masculine bar area, which tends to get pretty corporate after 5PM, boasts some attractive lighting fixtures. The wine cellar, which doubles as a spill over room, can also be reserved for private parties, receptions, etc. Reservations are suggested for cross-town travelers, but Detroit residents need not worry so much. Management tends to keep one or two tables open for locals who wander in on a more regular basis.
