Rate and Write a Review When a successful bar/restaurant opens a sister location, chances are you expect to the same elements that made the original place a hit to follow suit. And so it is with The Emory, opened late-February 2006 by -- and across the street from -- the owners of Woodward Avenue Brewers. While The Emory is a far cry from the WAB's exposed brick, brewpub legend, it generates its own sort of organic coolness. More lounge than restaurant -- although a limited menu offers great burgers, a couple of salads, three or four sandwiches and a couple of custom pizzas -- it replaces dark, smokey and intimate, with a wide open, smartly lit and uniquely designed interior. Going strong with a Scandinavian-looking, Ikea-inspired, linear-wood motif -- almost everything is done in varying degrees of warm earth-tone brown -- the main room contains a series of tables backed by one, long-running bench back. Tables for four remain throughout, with a long bar that seats about 14 on the north side and a row of comfy, leather booths to the south. A small corner up front, right by the window looking out onto Woodward, has a pool table and next to that, a large booth for small parties. For food and drink, owners Grant and Krista Johnston are doing Ferndale right.
