If you survive the initial shock and doubt of driving into the neighborhood, you're in for an experience at Los Galanes Restaurant. A bright outdoor mural proclaiming 'Diversity Is Our Strength' shores up the faint-hearted and offers encouragement to find parking on the narrow streets. Walking in, you encounter an amiable hostess on your left and a busy, tortilla-making kitchen on the right. The warming and comfortable smells only compete for your attention within this surprisingly clean eatery. Diners are scattered throughout the fairly large interior, where there's plenty of room to move, talk and eat. Decor is nondescript and the floor is uneven, but every table is conscientiously clean and tidy. On the ground floor, a steaming lunch buffet beckons. Further to the right sits a stage where a live band plays on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and a dance floor where a sign admonishes: 'No children on the dance floor, please!' Upstairs is the Huachinango Grill, which also remains pleasantly clean and stocked with shellfish and seafood. -- Elizabeth Rackover

The Best Mexican in Town!!!!!
By mrgoblueguy on 03/02/2008
I love Mexican food and have been to every Mexican restaurant in town and think Los Galanes is the best. Everything is great there from the service to the drinks to the food. The food is more consistent than the ot her places. The chips and salsa are the best around and the chicken burritos are better than the places I was at in Texas

Wonderful Restaurant
By simmimama on 05/09/2007
This is an absolutely wonderful restaurant. The food is great the atmosphere relaxed and fun. I find the terminology used by the reviewer insulting. "suprisingly clean eatery," is an insult in any context. Mexican Town is full of wonderful restaurants and ethnic experiences. This is one of the best!

I find the descrption by the author of your lead article to be offensive. There is nothing wrong with the neighborhood. Where does she live?

Graciela's Right

Please update your summary of the neighborhood. Southwest Detroit has enjoyed a wonderful revitalization in the last few years. The food at Los Galanes has always been good, and parking is no longer allowed on the side streets, making navigation easier.
