In our age of fast-forward dining and lightning business lunches, very few Detroit dining establishments can boast the longevity and history of Opus One. Owners of a four-star restaurant since its opening in 1987, James C. Kokas and Edward R. Manziara transformed an old taxi garage on Larned Street into a wonder of American and European design accented by wood, marble and etched glass touches. Of course, the real reason Opus One has enjoyed so many successful years in the spotlight is in the award-winning menu. Every dinner is a veritable work of art, from their grilled jumbo sea scallops served on a bed of angel hair pasta to New Zealand lamb chops with a sweet balsamic glaze finished with a demi-glaze. Meats, poultry and seafood are smoked on the premises by Opus One's staff. Chocolate desserts, ice creams and pastries are also prepared on in their kitchen. Located in the city's business and theater districts, Opus One constantly buzzes with activity. Be sure to take home the restaurant's special touch, a sack of chocolate chip cookies, which can be purchased on-site or online. -- Jessica J. Shaw

Excellent all around

As coodinator for VIP protection & services for Distinguished Limousines L.L.C. we have been nothing but impressed for the level of service this establishment has presented our clients. We have taken several leaders of Fortune 500 Companies here and we have always been thanked. Opus One is great in ensuring a private, first class evening which is very important for our guests. POOR Management
By durtydan on 12/22/2004
Six of us dined there and took our time enjoying appetizers, the main course and then dessert and coffee. We were barely into our desserts when a manager came over and asked us if we would please finish our coffee (3 people were still eating their dessert) at the bar because they needed our table for other patrons. Several tables were empty, and as far as I am concerned they can stay that way. I was still upset the following day and wrote management, but they never responded back to me.

siam prod

The appy was grilled Mediterianian shrimp over garlic hummus - Very Good. The main course was lamb chops with spinach and potatos au graten - melt in your mouth amd the desert was an apple tart with cinnamin ice cream covered incaremel sauce - out of this world. The Bar tender Chip was excellent and all of his suggestions were right on, he suggested a desert wine, A Rieslaner, just sweet enough. A most enjoyable evening at the bar - I will be going back!

previous fan dissapointed

Opus had been one of my favorite restaurants, not anymore. The service was terrible(one waitress for a group of 25), the veal tough and cold, the apple tart wouldn't cut with a knife it was so rubbery.
