Duluth's only microbrewery was once the longest continuously operating brewery in Minnesota -- at least until Prohibition reared its ugly head. Now it's arguably the biggest attraction on Lake Superior. The Grill offers exceptionally good pub food -- you could easily make a meal out of appetizers like the hummus platter, beer-battered onion rings or black-bean quesadillas. Even the faintly grim-sounding Meatless Harvest Moon Wild Rice Burger Fitgers rates high marks. But this is a brewery, after all. Fitgers currently offers just seven of their handcrafted beers on tap, including three "full-time brews" and more than 20 seasonal beers in regular rotation. Their popular WitchTree E.S.B. brew won a Gold award for brewing excellence in 1998. Fitgers's popular Groovy Tuesdays feature live music from funk bands with smirk-inducing names like Accidental Porn, but Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays get jiggy with live and/or "canned" music from local DJs. Recently they've gone all alt-culture, with a weekly adventure slide-show series with titles like "Mountaineering for Mortals" and the upcoming "Women in the Woods."
