For more than 80 years, the Balkan Bakery has prided itself on providing its customers with the freshest breads and baked goods available in Flint. People from far and wide visit here to buy a loaf of the bakery's famous unsliced, handmade and preservative-free Mother's Bread. Other breads include potato, corn, rye and sesame, but don't overlook the doughnuts, cookies, pies and other baked goodies that are displayed below the counter in the glass showcase. The owner, a world traveler, has decorated the walls with a collection of photos of the places she has visited on her European adventures.

Strange people
My family has been buying their bread for over 50 years. Back when they were on St. John's Street . There present location is'nt not much better. Their bread is good when you buy it hot and unwraped. It makes great toast when a few days old. But the family that owns it are not very nice to deal with. Compared to breads I've gotten in most other cities around the country, sometimes in grocery stores, it's just average. V G's has much better bread, cooked better and cheaper.
Hospitality not so good
I'd have to agree, I use to go to Balkan Bakery, I grew up on it, my kids enjoyed it, but the service stinks. I now go to Aldo's Italian Bakery, and the familiy there accepts you as you are someone in their family. The will bake you and make you whatever it takes to make you happy.
My grand daughter just had an open house, and we asked them to make us a huge loaf of bread made in the letters G and B and they did it exactly as I asked in italian, wheat, and rye. That was wonderful to know that they will accomidate you and fill your needs. If you haven't tried them, you ought to give them a try. Their children are as nice as the parents, they are one big family there, and you become a part of it as you open their front door.
