Friendly Waiter, Rude Owner
By kfleiszar on 09/27/2004
I have just returned from dining at the Magnolia Grill, and unfortunately feel that I must give it a poor rating. They advertise as a friendly “Mom and Pop” restaurant and my husband wanted to try it. We took two out of town guests. Our waiter, Nate, was wonderful, efficient, and funny. However, when it was time to order, there was a charge for everything. If I wanted a potato with my beef filet instead of the fettuccini Alfredo, it was $3.00. Any substitution or change from the menu was charged. It wasn’t the $3.00 so much as the lack of customer service from the owner, Mr. Rice. Toward the end of our dinner, he came to talk to us because the waiter mentioned our discussion about the charge for a potato. Mr. Rice stated that he supports many charities in our community but does not want to support a diner as a charity. He said that he couldn’t have the customer dictating the prices to him. He was very arrogant and rude. My husband and I dine in nice restaurants all the time and I have always been treated as a guest, not a charity case. The other three guests in out party enjoyed their meal but I found the prime rib, which I ordered so I wouldn’t have to eat fettuccini with my steak, was tough and overcooked although I ordered it medium rare. The twice-baked potato was lumpy and bland. Mr. Rice cared more about squeezing every dime out of us than he cared about our enjoyment of the meal. In fact, I had to ask him to leave so that I could finish my meal in peace instead of listening to his abuse. I am just thankful that I did not drop my knife, as that would most likely have been a $5.00 charge.

Owner an Manager bad attitudes
By imonlydaddyspet on 06/20/2004
I don't recommend this place unless you like rude managers. The owner Tom Rice was not very friendly neither. We had a Bachelorett luncheon and it was a big joke. No matter what any one wanted it still was going to caught 15 dollars a head. We had a child with us and her meal would have been 4.95 but she still had to pay the 15 dollars, no matter what. The owner wouldn't even work with us. Half the people didn't care for Chicken salad Croissants (his recommendation) and couldn't change our plans. The waitress was very nice and understanding and did try to work with the group. So we decided to take our party to Red Lobster and had a ball and the Manners from all was excellent.

We had dinner there last week, the food was wonderful! Large portion size, and quick service. And we had a party of about 15! Would highly recommend the fettecine with shrimp alfredo and crap cakes dinner............. it really was divine.
