Mallory's is one of 15 of the Don Hall-owned and - operated Fort Wayne area restaurants. The upscale but casual restaurant features a mix of American and Mediterranean cuisines and a contemporary decor enhanced by colorful -- but not garish -- murals. Someone once said that small is beautiful, and Mallory's takes this to heart with its seating. The dining room is cozy, seating only about 30 people at a time, but there is plenty of room for diners and servers to move about freely. It's difficult to think of a dish they don't prepare exceptionally well.

Perfect for light eaters
I thought about giving this place a second chance. We hadn't been there since they lost their Head Chef Steve Potter back in the late 90's. I stopped by the Guesthouse to see if I could get a table, but there wasn't one to be had. I ended up dining al fresco (sort of). I stood in the lobby of the hotel remembering all of the wonderful dishes that Chef Potter and his team put together. The likes of which I haven't seen since. No, the room that once housed the treasured meals of alligator, ostrich and venison is now a part of the banquet department for the hotel. For Chef Potter, he has put away his spatula and knives. He still works with food, but instead of preparing it, he is supplying it to other restaurants. And as for his team, well they just sort of vanished. I hope that on day someone will try this restaurant concept again, I'm missing that sea weed relish.
