If you know your childs a born actor, Childrens Musical Theaterworks is the place where he or she can work on developing that talent. Childrens Musical Theaterworks is the only place in the Central Valley area that is dedicated to developing the dramatic skills of young actors and actresses. Joel Abels, the artistic director, founded this group in 1997, and it is now considered the premier youth theater group in the Fresno area.Since the groups inception, more than 250 children have acted in performances sponsored and directed by the theater. The group has produced seven productions so far, and has many more in the works. More than 5,000 Fresno- area residents have had the opportunity to see these talented children take their dynamic acting skills to the stage. The productions take place at a select number of theaters in the area, including Washington Union High School, Sierra Vista Mall, Manchester Center and NorthPointe Community Church. For the seven productions performed so far, the costume designers have had to create more than 600 different styles. Classes are also offered for youth to develop their skills in areas such as vocal style, dance exploration, musical theater dance, stage makeup, character development and scene work. --Catherine Hurst
