The Triad's burgeoning dance scene has friends at the Orion, because the owner is proud to present DJs five nights a week. The line-up usually includes trance, old-school hip-hop, '80s favorites and a weekly party; Sunday and Tuesday nights are set aside for karaoke. The venue is small, and it's what Europeans refer to as a lounge -- meaning, if the door person likes you, you're in. If you're wearing scruffy sweats and dirty tennis shoes, no amount of money will save you from getting denied. This policy seems to be a hit, especially with female guests. Some of them even show up alone, because they know they'll run into friends instead of potential lurkers. Purple and gold tones dominate the dcor scheme. In addition to a small dance floor, there's a back area with foosball and pool tables. -- Lena Katz
