Joshua Wilton House   

This was my 1st experience at the Joshua Wilton House. Very fancy inside, great service and very tasty food. The portions are a little small, but I expected that. The main issue is price. For the Shenandoah Valley and the salaries of the area, the prices are way too high. The only way I could ever return would be if someone else were paying, but I would return under those circumstances.

It's nice to have a place like this in the city of soul-less chain restaurants. Food is often very good but it's over-priced and the preparation is simply hit or miss.

Food is excellent, beautiful and well prepared. Make sure there is no credit limit on your card before you go. For this part of the country, this is very, very pricy. Also, you might want to go out to eat afterwards if you have an appetite larger than a mouse. To me, two sprigs of dandelion greens and a cherry tomato do not a salad make. Big plates, but servings are very tiny. Guess so they can fit in more courses and make more money. I have gone there several times on expense account (which is what most people do I am sure) but I am just a country girl and it really is too high-faluting for me. Guess I am the kind of person they would prefer to keep out.

The Joshua Wilton House has been one of my favorites (from across the country) for many years. The food is always fresh, including a creative combination of locally available fare, and the selection is top notch. But best of all the presentation and ultimate "taste" is unsurpassed. The wait staff is outstanding and one of the owners is always present and actually working the floor. I have taken and sent my "big city" clients there for many years and none have been disappointed - in fact many now stop there when they are passing through on other ventures. However, the big secret is the Bed & Breakfast - reserve the turret room - it is a special retreat after an exceptional meal downstairs. Jeff
