The Federal Caf has positive and negative qualities to it. Some positives are pretty good music, a lively crowd and a good selection of drafts. There are some negatives that may outweigh the positives though. The first is the lack of overage night-goers. My night may have been an exception, but people say the Fed is notorious in Hartford for being a place where underage kids weasel in and drink. A younger crowd sometimes means a lot of tough guys towards the end of the night. Another unfortunate aspect of the Fed can be the one-person restrooms located at the rear of the bar. It can be difficult to get to them, and once you do, brushing arms with ample amounts of people to struggle back is no treat. The Fed does have a lot of potential so if you are looking for something different you may want to give it a shot. -- Staff

V.V and ladyhejp: YOU ARE THE ONES WHO ARE THE BAL LICKERS. Becker does pay the help. Now that tracy's gone, the only one to look at is chip. and he's one ugly freak. the bentley kid who wrote that nice review was right. but thats mark. he owns the place. there are a couple underage that have gotten in before, but what about the brickyard. they're getting shut down for the third time in 2 years. thats where you find the tough guys that try and steal your girls. i've been a regular at the fed since i was 20, but now i'm legal and i wouldn't be caught dead anywhere but the fed and coach's.

The Fed is what you make it. Yes, it is relatively small; yes, there are only single bathrooms in the back; yes, townies like to hang out there; yes, it does have its bad nights. But, as I previously mentioned, the Fed is what you make it. If you're looking for a hot dance club and a lot of "action," you're not going to find it there. What you'll find at the Fed, for the most part, are "normal" people just out to have some drinks and out to have a good time. I've been going to the Fed for a few years now and find it to be one of my favorite places to hang out. I've never really noticed any "tough guys" walking around all the time, as a couple of people previously mentioned. The beer selection is good, the music selection is good, the staff is cool, and it kicks butt on New Year's Eve! Don't knock the Fed until you've tried it more than once, and with the right frame of mind.
